How much should I pay for coving? Am I being ripped off?

Does anyone know roughly how much per metre I should be paying a builder to put up coving in our house?

We're having an extension built and we forgot to list coving in the specification, but we want it to match the rest of the house. Builder has quoted us £480 for one small bedroom, our kitchen and playroom. Seems a bit to me...

I think its about £8 - £10 for a 2 metre length in B&Q but look it up on www.diy.com

I did mine. It's incredibly light and you stick it up with no more nails. You even buy the corners seperately so its terribly easy.

If they have to come in and make a cast of existing coving and then make it to match then it will cost a bit yes

I have just been quoted £160 (+ VAT) today to buy and put up swan neck coving in a garage conversion measuring approx 6x5 metres. Is that any help?

They won't have to make any casts of existing coving - it doesn't have to match exactly what's in different rooms.

Cluttercup, what is swan neck coving? It's all a new ballgame to me .

Thanks for the tip Lauriefairycake, I didn't realise it was so easy to do. Will have a think about whether we could do it ourselves, although we are rubbish at DIY.

Lauriefairyake is right.It is dead easy to put up.Imanaged to do it in one afternoon in our old bathroom & that had 5 walls plus alcoves & none of the walls were straight.It is a doddle.
