Painting - where do I start?

I am bored of waiting for DH to get around to painting the bathroom and landing walls (has been over 3 years), so am considering doing it myself.

I have no idea where to start though; the walls have been filled and sanded (roughly by the looks of it) and DH has slapped a base coat of white paint over the plaster because I had been moaning about the plaster dust. We bought the paint months ago which helps.

Shall I just give the walls a quick wipe over and get started on them with a roller and paintbrush, or should I do the woodwork first?

I really have no idea what I'm doing......

This is how i usually do it.Do all filling and rubbing down.If its been a while since you did that hoover the walls with a soft hoover bit.Then undercoat both walls and wood work.Then do all cutting in with emulsion and then roller.Finally paint the woodwork.Really easy and v satisfying xx

Well, if you are going to paint the ceiling, then you should do that first. Personally, I do ceiling, woodwork then walls, but read something recently that said ceiling, walls, then wood work. So, your choice really. Gloss painting wood work is harder than painting walls and will take longer. I'd say wipe down the walls and paint them, see how you get on and if all goes OK then do the wood work. I do all the painting in our house and if DH moans, which he does sometimes, I suggest he does it himself.

So do I need to undercoat the walls even though DH has roughly painted them already? It may even be undercoat for all I know. If I ask he will think I'm nagging again....

I might leave the woodwork until after then and hope that DH may be spurred into action (not likely). I hate gloss paint.

Stupid question then - what is the best way to paint the ceiling? I thought it had been done, but it hasn't
