Hall furniture: please choose for me

Looking for a piece of furniture to fit an inglenook (less than 100cms) in the hall that I can put purse, housekeys & dh's pocket detritus and possibly store a few shoes underneath.

Would you pick either of these?

I think the pier one is better. You can store hall crap behind the doors
