Can anyone recommend a London removals firm? Or even tell me which are butter-fingered thieving swine best avoided?

Whereabouts are you?

If anywhere N or E, try JA Coles (hope I am remembering that right) in Stoke Newington. They moved me twice, and were utterly fab both times - in fact I had much worse experiences with an out of London company since then!

Thank-you. We're in South London, but I will give them a try.

Any others?

Really recommend OIS Removals in Herne Hill- they're 'green' removers and were fab when I used them six months ago.

Thanks P and P but their quote is double all the other I have received. sadly, I don't think I can afford them.

We've used Bushells in Southfields twice, they were really friendly, slightly undercounted the no. of boxes to round it down, broke nothing at all and even let DS (2) go on the lorry for a look around!

They charge a deposit per box which you get back if you return them - I suppose it depends where you are moving to whether that would be an option otherwise the price will increase of course.

Six Keys - based in Acton and a few other places around London.
They were recommended to me by a few friends, and made our moving day almost pleasurable.

Was £950 for moving a jam-packed 2-bed 1st/2nd floor maisonette with full loft, to a house 40 min drive away. They supplied boxes but we packed, and they checked up on us a couple times before the move to ensure we had enough right-sized boxes and were getting on with it.
Five chaps at one end, four at the other, arrived 8am, worked until 7.30pm putting everything in the right place.
Even moved the fish tank, and nothing broken at all.

They also kept our moving date open despite our exchange date being postponed for two months, and kept us abreast of alternative dates in case we had to delay further (we exchanged on the last day they could hold the date for!)

Avoid Russ & co

We used Maitland Bell the last time we moved (8 years ago) and they were great. They came at about 8am and had packed our 3 bed house by lunchtime. They were also very flexible about dates falling through and changing where we were moving to at the last minute.

Thank you all very much. I will get quotes from all of these tomorrow.

we used these. Were the cheapest and we were only moving 5 mins away so didn't want to spend £££££. They were great too.

We've used Batemans of Reading twice recently and they were fab www.batemansofreading.co.uk/. Really nice friendly guys, no breakages, reasonably priced. I know they do national and international moves so should imagine they would do London. Well worth a call.

ELR · 12/08/2008 21:47

i have just booked continental move group they are moving us and packing us for 520 quid large 3 bed flat

Haylo · 14/08/2008 11:29

Would recommend making a cash offer after you see the quote. We had £550 quote to move our 4 bed house, with me packing up boxes about 5 miles across town, we offered £400 cash and they accepted - we are in east sussex though - but aren't all removal firms a bit short of work at the moment ?

We recently moved with www.wilson-removals.co.uk . They collected and delivered our grand piano in the right room which proved so easy for their staff.Give them a call to find out if they cover London area also Confused
