I am fed up with trying to save up for granite worktops in our kitchen. Is there a look alike (not laminate)I could use instead? What think all you style gurus?

My dp says you could use either micro marble, or imitation granite. Not marble cos it scratches easily. How much cheaper do you need it?

What sort of price are you looking for?
We bought our granite direct from the internet and it was only 2k instead of the 4.3k quoted by kitchen company!

I think 2 grand would be the most I would want to go at the moment. Did you then get someone to fit your marble Jackstini? That sounds like a lot of trouble - was it?. I am off to google micro marble and imitation granite!! Thanks stretch.

The 2k was including cutting and fitting. Found on ebay, here you go shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=granite+worktops

granite transformations - think the web address is www.granitetransformations.co.uk. they fit a thin layer of granite over your existing worktop. I was going to have this done as I have old fashioned thick worktops so it would look super chunky. They just come and fit it around your sink and hob once you have provided measurements.

Think my quote online was only about £1200

where did you find Maia for £245 Laurelfairycake? I'm fed up with my black gloss laminate which shows up water marks and never looks clean but don't know what to replace it with. Thought Maia was out of my price range though presumably more expensive to fit than laminate. Matt worktops look a bit dull but heard they don't show up marks so much. Not sure if lighter colour gloss any better? Has anyone found any imitation granite/micro marble?

How about quartz stone, looks like stone but a bit sparkly and costs much less, comes in a range of colours. Not sure of suppliers etc but have seen it used and it looks v smart.

We had Granite Transformations do our worktops about 3 years ago. They still look really good and only anyone wanting to crawl under the cupboards (!) would know the difference. They were in and out in one day and I didn't even have to empty the cupboards. Much, much less hassle and much, much cheaper than the real thing
