9ft by 12ft bedroom - how much would you estimate a decorator would charge?

I have had two quotes, and am horrified. [old fart emoticon]

This is in London, to be fair. Jobs are: lining paper and couple of coats of paint on walls, insert ventilation grille into chimney breast, coat of paint to ceiling, fill gaps round window (nothing major) and tile windowsill inside, gloss all woodwork (door, skirting-boards, window, loft hatch) and radiator, and nail down sheets of hardboard to make floor ready for carpeters. Oh, and glue up polystyrene coving and paint it (classy, me ).

Go on, whaddaya reckon?

Dp is a decorator not in London, thinks the quotes are cheap, if that makes you feel any better.

LovelyDear · 26/07/2008 22:31

we have a london quote for big hall stairs and landing at 1000. so i feel ok about that now, thank you!

frisbyrat · 26/07/2008 22:56

Thanks - I feel a bit better now too.

Send me his details. I've been quoted £1000-1400 per room. Comparable in size. I'm still reeling too. Not even central London either.

Lvely dear, quoted 1500-2000 for painting and decorating a hall and landing.

frisbyrat · 27/07/2008 12:22

Harriet if you're serious, email me on frisbyrat"at" hotmail "dot" com once he's done the job, and I'll tell you if he's any good.

He reckons he'll start on Tuesday and be done by Saturday.

OP posts:
cremolafoam · 27/07/2008 12:25

£500-600

HarrietTheSpy · 29/07/2008 00:12

Frisby
Thanks for the offer. I'm wondering though if the difference in price is down to the fact that we want the walls made good by skimming (or plastering if necessary) after the current lining paper comes off...

What side of London are you? We're East.
