What kind of floor would go with shiny white cupboards and wooden worktops?

I was thinking that wood (or wood effect laminate) would go, but DP says slate effect. I'm not sure. Maybe there would be too much wood with wood on the floor as well as worktops, and might look as though we tried to match but didn't quite.

Are there any other options? Something that will look nice but will be hardwearing and not too expensive.

slate definitely , but it will darken the room a bit.Is there plenty of natural light?
Have a look at Vinyl tiles.some of them are quite good now.practical hard wearing and inexpensive.

Yes def slate effect (but not actual slate, its a PIG to clean).

I have charcoally porcelein tiles and they look great.

we have it the other way up - shiny white/cream cupboards, slate-look (well, matt black corian-type) worktops and an oak floor

the only thing to be wary of is the shiny white with the dark slate is quite high-contrast and can look a bit stark

Seems like dark slate effect is the favourite then (think I was against it because that's what we have at the minute and I wanted a change when we get the new kitchen!).

Now I'm thinking about it, what about tiles and wall colour? Would it need to be something bright/warm so it doesn't seem too stark?

We have cream cupboards with a beech worktop and beech laminate floor (would have liked real wood but the budget didn't allow!) and it looks lovely, not too much wood at all. We have kept the walls and tiles quite neutral (Dulux Natural Hessian and beige mosaic tiles) and it makes the room seem lovely and light and fresh.

I thought about tiles but they looked very dark in our kitchen, and also too hard and cold for me.

depends on the look you want and the style of the room (rustic, modern, minimal, cosy etc)

I think our tiles are going to be cream to match the cupboards as coloured tiles looked really cheesey and 90s and we can't afford the brushed steel splashback that dh really really wants

the walls are a warmer shade of cream/stone/brown/beige - the room is s-facing and very bright, if it'd been dark we'd have used a lighter cream.

you could have any colour on the walls with that scheme as essetially it is completely neutral.however i might stick to taupe or plae grey colour then just accesorize with a bright colour like red or apple green.

Same kitchen as you and we went for industrial metal look lino - grey pattern like in pret a manger.

You could have wood, if so I'd suggest you get the same type of wood as your worktop to match it in.
Slate (or slate effect) looks smart but is bit dark and might look stark as MrsB says.
WOudl also recommend real wood or engineered boards (not too pricey) rather than laminate, which can look a bit cheap anc chips/scratches v easily esp in a kitchen(speak from experience).
