We are thinking of moving and narrowed it down to Oxfordshire or very maybe North Devon. Idea is to stay there till kids gone through secondary school (so a good 15 years!). Not planning of educating them privately so t good primary and secondary schools are a must.

BTW we currently live in Oxford and like to move out of Oxford.

Thought Wheatley ticks most boxes but not entirely sure about Wheatley Park school

Hi Pickie,
Could I ask why you are moving out of Oxford? We are thinking of moving into Oxford (to be nearer to jobs, currently several miles out).

Hi Jeff

We are thinking of moving out as we will get a lot more house/land for our money just out of Oxford. We both work from home so commuting is not an issue. Also there is a possibility the inlaws will be moving next doors (Pickie runs for the hills!)

I sometimes hear that people want to leave Oxford as not happy with schools and things, so I was wondering if thats really such an issue. I do really like it where we are (over on the west side), but a shorter commute/able to cycle would be great. Would also be good to have shops, cinema and so on a bit closer, but have to weigh up against bigger house/garden. Will be interested to see any other replies you get.

Henley's quite nice. It's about 6 miles away from us, the secondary (Gillots) has q. a good reputation and the countryside around here is lovely.

Schools is also playing a role, when moving to Oxford make sure you visit the schools before buying. Might have good results but if you dont fit in within the catchment area it can be a dissapointment.

Will look into Henley, thank you Mumblechum.

Hi pickie? Are you still around? We have included Oxford in the areas we'd like to buy so I'd like your opinion. Last summer there were a few houses that didn't have scary prices but now they are scarily priced (and I'm not talking about properties with charm). London is gotten cheaper by comparison.

Hi,
We are looking to move from London to somewhere near Oxford as DH has just been relocated. DCs are 9 and 12 so we need somewhere that has things for teenagers to do eg cinema. We are currently in London and so have absolutely no idea of where to look.
Have already had useful advice from MNers on education thread re schools - so any advice on location??

Bloxham is nice. Has a fab secondary school, The Warriner. It's near Banbury, but you can't have everything Deddington is a lovely village too.
