Sisal or wool carpet?

Please help, I desperately want sisal flooring in the hall and in the baby's room but am torn as i think it's probably not the most sensible option. Can any mumsnetters who have sisal give me the pros and cons, and whether they'd have it again? Also, if I had sisal in those 2 rooms I'd need to put sisal in any other rooms that I replaced the carpet in wouldn't I, rather than having other rooms with wool carpet.

It's bloody hard to clean.

We had sisal in our back bedroom and it was awful and not hard-wearing at all. Also, when we went to buy new carpet the man there said they no longer recommended Sisal for hardwearing areas (like halls) as they'd had so many customers complain about it.

Wool is hardwearing, though we do have problems with ours cos furniture leaves a 'dent' in it (if you see what I mean - ie. a table leaves 4 marks where the legs have dug in).

We got a wool mix carpet, hardwearing, stain resistant for our little lad's bedroom. It was a lot cheaper, looks better and, TBH, we'd get this in future rather than pure wool.

Good luck

I don't think it'll cope with baby sick particularly well. I would agree with WWW, it's bloody hard to clean.

hard to clean, I second WWW's comment, I have at least 3 stains that just won't come out.

tough on baby feet, it can be a little jagged, but DD got used to it quite quickly (poor thing)

fairly expensive

slippery on stairs

but it looks great (where it is not stained)

I would go for wool over sisal every time. You cannot get it wet AT ALL and it is difficult to clean. Its also not very comfy to wander around on.
