Front Doors and Sash Windows

We need a new front door. Can anyone recommend suppliers / web sites etc?

Also, our sash windows need replacing. Gulp. I love wooden. DH wants uPVC as he thinks wooden are too high maintenance. I'm not sure how a coat of weather proof paint every year is high maintenance but maybe I'm wrong.

Does anyone have any experience of these windows and again, can anyone recommend good suppliers / web sites for me to have a look at?

Tips much appreciated. Thank you.

You could try Jeld-Wen UK. We've used them. They're a good place to start.

Try local builders merchants (Travis Perkins etc) too and check what prices they could do them for (a lot won't stock each size and style but can get them in if you order them)

It might be worth asking a sash renovation company to come and have a look -you'd be amazed how they can often salvage old knackered ones. Look in your local Yellow Pages

you can get upvc sash windows. i have them they are brilliant espec. as they tilt inwards so you can clean the outsides from inside. i wont recommend the company i used because although the windows were great the fitting was attrocious.

We have just ordered some replacement sash windows and some to be refurbished i/e draught proofing, new cills etc. Ours will be made with a new wood alternative (the company used to use oak) called accoya www.bswaccoya.co.uk. We're buying from www.sashwindow.com, can't comment further than that as they haven't been fitted yet. Initial contact with the company has been very good including a visit to their workshop.
