Hot Water / Radiator question

MrsAlwaysRight · 02/07/2008 18:29

Please can someone help me before I boil to death! For some reason when the boiler is on heating the hot water the radiators heat up to even though the central heating is not on. Does anyone have any ideas how I can stop the radiators heating up when hot water on?
Many Thanks in advance

What kind of boiler do you have? I'm assuming it's a combi. As well as the switch to have hot water only or hot water and heating, there might be two dials (well there is on mine) to set the temperature of the water and the rads. If the switch is broken, you should be able to turn the dial down.

I'd check if the switch is broken first or if someone in your family has fiddled with it.

I'm not sure what kind it is how can I find out? Don't think we have any paperwork for it.

Do you have a tank?If you do its not a combi. turn thermostat off and if rads have individual valves turn those down.If this doesn't work you need a plumber

can you switch the radiators off at the raditaor?

You can tell if it's a combi by turning on the hot tap, if you hear the boiler fire up it's a combi.

MrsAlwaysRight · 02/07/2008 21:13

Definately not a combi. Thermostat is turned right down already. I'll turn each radiator off for time being. We're getting bathroom replaced in a few weeks so will get plumber to take a look then. Thanks for the replies

Your motorised valve is stuck, probably. So instead of shutting off when you just want hot water, it stays open to feed the rads.
