Selling rant

Trying to sell our house, just dropped the price and switched agents. They called yesterday and booked in a viewing for 4.30 today. Cancelled my plans and spent the whole of today getting the house looking its best. My husband and I both work full time, he’s overseas for work currently, so very little time to do deep cleaning!
The agent called at 4.30 today say the viewer changed her mind as it’s too far to walk into town. WTF is wrong with people. I am so fed up with flaky idiots. The only consolation is that my house is sparkling 😩😂

Oh get used to that, when I was selling, EA rang they had a viewing at last min could i accomodate, he rang at midday viewing was for 3pm, house was a bit messy and 2 dogs to accomodate, so busted my gut to get it show home ready, waiting for the estate agent he rang and just cancelled no reason at all, just not coming now. I was polite to EA but raging inside. People are arseholes.

We've had all sorts.

DH took a call from our EA who said someone wanted to view so we shuffled calendars around and said we could do it on the day they wanted. 5 mins later another call from our EA to say they've cancelled, sorry hes travelling to Germany (?!).

Then literally 5 mins later, another call from our EA says someone different wanted to view so we accepted, 5 mins later they cancelled.

another booking was cancelled because the viewer said we were too close to the road. What's wrong with doing your drive- by before wasting people' time?

Our EA is a highly reputable household name, so we can't imagine they are doing this deliberately, we just don't know what's going on! Quite happy we're coming off the market over Christmas just to get respite from the idiots and time wasters.

Honestly its painful.

When we were selling ours, we spent the whole day, as you said, cleaning, moving things, and presenting the house for the viewing. It was spotless. DH put the dogs in the car and took them out while I stayed to show the couple round.

They turned up and I recognised them straight away, they were a couple that lived in the village who I knew by face but didn't know as such. They turned up with their dog and asked if the garden was secure and could they put the dog on the garden. I told them it WAS secure for our dogs but with theirs being smaller I couldn't guarantee it wouldn't be able to find a way out. They were just like 'oh he will be okay' and left him there wandering around and pissing up everything.

We went inside the house and it was quite clear that they had just come for a nose around and had no intention of buying it. They were just snooping about. They were not listening to me when I was telling them certain things about the house because they just were not interested in that. They were more interested in where I had got my pictures from on the wall in the lounge, and the male of the two was more interested in looking at my DH's bikes and he didn't even go in a couple of the rooms.

I decided to try and wind the viewing up as quickly as I could as I knew there was no way they were buying and it actually felt intrusive with them just wandering round being nosey.

I finally wrapped up the viewing by telling them I had other people on the way to view or I think they would have made themselves at home and put the TV on!

They went outside to get their dog and he had gone! Panic ensued and he started yelling at me that I had told him the garden was secure. I told him that actually I hadn't and he had left his dog in there at his own risk.

After a short time of searching and name calling, the dog was located wandering about in the front garden where he had proceeded to take a shit. I asked them to please pick it up, which they reluctantly did.

They left, thank god, and spoke to my neighbour across the road as they were leaving. When they had gone the neighbour came over to tell me that they admitted to him that they had just arranged the viewing because they liked our house and had always wanted to have a look inside and that they had booked to go to the pub for lunch so would arrange to view it seeing as though they were walking past anyway!

Time wasting morons!

Thanks all, at least it’s not just me! I am going to sort out a key for the EA this week and downscale the cleaning frenzy going forward. It’s not the cancellation that got to me, it was the excuse. Surely anyone with half a brain looks at the map on Rightmove before they book a viewing, so frustrating.

In Scotland, pre-covid, we had Thursday evening and Sunday open viewings...so,so much easier for organising house...

We’ve been on the market for just over a month, and last-minute cancellations have been really frustrating, especially during the week when we’re both working and have to drop everything to clean and rearrange our schedules.
So, moving forward, we’ve asked for all viewings to be arranged on Saturdays. That way, even if one gets cancelled, we still have other viewings lined up on the same day.

That's very practical if you have a healthy supply of interest, but if it's one viewing every 2 - 3 weeks and the person wants a particular day and time, and are t prepared to come round on the day of the "Open House" you're snookered!

Open House was popular during the buoyant sellers' market of yesteryear, not now in the current stagnant nervous market with interest rates topping 5-6%

Why deep clean?
Just make sure things are ok. It's fine.
