Unsure about moving house

DP and I currently live in a lovely village with DC 18 months, we have a 2 bed semi that we have put so much work into with a good garden, very local park and good local primary school however, the house is proving to be too small for a growing family. We had thought about extending but this would take a lot of our garden space and we really do use the garden a lot. The thing with the village we live in is there’s no in between from a 2 bed semi to a 4 bed detached for 650k which we do not have

There is a 3 bed semi in the next village that needs a lot of work however, has a huge driveway, a big garden and has a lot of potential for rear and side extension. The primary school would mean driving to school rather than walking, the park is not as local but there is a lot of fields and walks local to the house. Something about the village doesn’t feel like as much of a village as where we currently live but I don’t know if that’s just the sentimental attachment to where we live now. Overall our toddler would gain a play room, and so much more outside space, and we would have more space for a growing family
With what we would make on our home we should have enough for renovations. Would you move out of a village you love for more space?

I'd stay put. Currently house moving is fraught with issues.

I would stay in the two bed and save like mad to try to afford the 4 bed home sooner. Miss out the stepping stone in between. Moving is so stressful right now and stamp duty outrageous.

If your house isn't even on the market the chance of your bid for the other house is relatively small. In your circumstances I'd probably stay put as location is the most important factor for most people. Any chance of a loft conversion? Summer house?

I wouldn’t move either. You need to seriously declutter and use vertical storage and then declutter more. Your DC doesn’t need heaps of toys research has shown more toys is actually a barrier to them playing.

Location is so important, you have what you need on your doorstep. Job stability and the economy isn’t great.

Save really hard and see where you are at in a couple of years.
