If you didn't have to buy a house...

Would you??

Really do not know what to do! We can go into cheap rented property - DH is in the Forces.

Personally, I probably would.

My husband's great-uncle was a clergyman who was left homeless when he retired, as he'd always lived in church accommodation and never bothered to buy anything himself. His sister had to step in and buy him a place.

Perhaps you could buy something and rent it out to cover the mortgage, while taking advantage of the cheap Forces rent?

Sorry - I am not worried about having a house. Have had house(s) in the past and have money stashed away.

I meant in the current economic climate!

Or would you wait until later in the year, next year etc??

Ah, right. In that case I might keep half an eye out in case my dream house came on the market, but certainly wouldn't be buying anything less than ideal.

Pretty much the same as Ninedragons. I would keep looking and if something fab comes up go for it but put in a ridiculous offer and see. Someone on here offered £480k on a £600k property last week and it was accepted.
