Not the best photos as they are quite small but we have always had these small little black/brown dots appearing on our bathroom windowsills. They are small, dont move and come back after cleaning. I thought it may be dirt falling from small cracks above but some of them are in places where there are no gaps or cracks above. They can be wiped clean and be back within a couple of hours. Anybody have any ideas what they could be?

I'd say fly or spider poop, happens here.

For me, spider poo tends to be concentrated in one place underneath the web, or crevice where the spider lives. I'd therefore go with large fly poo.

i thought that but theres no evidence of spiders. We do get the off fly in the bathroom but only small greenfly type flies. Our bathroom is at the back of the house and theres quite a few trees and a river at the back so we do get quite a few flies in the garden from that but they are small to tiny. Nowhere near big enough i would have thought to be doing poos that big.

Mouse poo? Or are they too small?

Sherararara · 12/10/2026 14:54

Fly poo would be the first thought.

Jimboox · 12/10/2026 19:34

No its too small to be mouse droppings plus theres nowhere in the bathroom a mouse could get.

I put some tissue down earlier ( around 4-5 hours ago) and this is what has appeared since. Ive also posted a pic with my finger for a size comparison. Again, no sign of flies or spiders etc around the area.

Well... Gemini says it's the empty case of a 'clothes moth' (which feeds on dust, spiders webs, skin, pet fur and human hair as well as natural fibers in clothing). They like the humidity of bathrooms. They could be living in nearby carpets or clothing. Thorough cleaning (obviously) and keeping the bathroom well ventilated so it isn't damp should help eradicate them.
