Feel sick about this noise.

I live in a 1st floor tenement flat.

I had my kitchen window open and as I went close it just bow the handle was sticking. Gave it another good pull and turn and it closed. But as it slammed there was a crumbling noise, like rubble falling.

Under the window ledge sounds hollow.

I’ve heard similar to this where there are old/blocked fireplaces in the property, but only very slightly. This sounded quite significant.

Is this a damp issue?

I feel sick, like my flat is collapsing around me.

Excuse typos. I can’t seem to edit as my screen is jumping around.

Can you share a photo or two?
I’d say pointing needs doing without further info. But that in itself normally highlights an area of concern.

what’s on the inside of the window? A sink?

Have you been outside to have a look?!

It’s pitch black just now and quite a height. I doubt I’ll be able to see anything.

Nothing under the window.

Theres nothing you can do about it tonight and in all honestly I don't think another night there will be unsafe.

In the morning, have a good look at it and see what you can see. If you rent, tell the landlord, if you own, see if your insurance covers it.

We had a hollow area, alarmingly large, inside the wall under the upstairs bay window. (Late Victorian brick house)
It actually wasn’t a big job to fix. One day with a good brickie- relaid some of the bricks and repointed the whole area, and some foam inside too I think.
Good luck!
