Window seal tape recommendations for rental property

Son has moved into a student house for his second year at uni. He is in a tiny room with one Victorian sash window and single glazing. There is only a window blind and there is no room at the top of the window and the ceiling to put in a curtain pole, otherwise I would buy him some thick curtains.

There is a draught coming through the window and as the room is so small, his bed has to go next to the window. Son is getting cold already and we are still in a mild Autumn.

All the above is to stop a drip feed later.

So, can anyone recommend a good window seal tape that we can out round the wood where the sash window joins the frame? I’m mindful that the tape has to be removed cleanly in the summer otherwise the landlord will note the damage and not refund them their deposit.

Recommendations would be appreciated, thank you.

No idea about widow tape, but I sympathise. DH and I were renovating and lived in a single glazed caravan for 2yrs. I'd read about putting bubble wrap on the windows to keep heat in. It might not work on sash windows though unless he has any that don't move? A hopeful bump for you anyways.

Thank you. There isn’t anywhere to attach the bubble wrap to the window or wall without nails or sticky tape pad things. I’ve also heard of cling film for fake double glazing but that won’t help the gap between the window and the frame.

What about blu-tak or the white version. The bubble wrap could be stuck JUST to the glass. Or 3M command tapes if you were thinking of trying to stick to the walls.

Will these pads peel off without marking the walls?

Get a sprung curtain pole + some thick blackout curtains for inside the recess- job done.
Just tell him to open them and the window every morning or he’ll end up with black mould.

I would use folded up newspaper to block the gaps and then tape over the surface with masking tape. That is what i used to do. It wonr damage the paint. You could try frog tape if the masking tape isn't sticky enough

That’s an excellent idea Thank you! And he can take it down gently when they have the landlord inspection.
