False Acacia Tree

We have this tree over hanging our property. It drops a horrible sap on our car.

We regularly trim it back, but our neighbour really likes it and is letting it grow.

Ive now looked it up.

Its non-native and described as invasive.

It grows upto 29m high! Its about 15ft away from our property.

My question - is this going to become a serious problem?

We have had to employ a tree surgeon on our side to get to top branches, going to be an ongoing cost!

Hi OP

We're going to move this over to property & DIY - we're hoping you'll get some good advice over there.

We have a false acacia tree and I love it. Ours is several years old and I've never known it to drip sap.
It is tall but has slender branches which are easy to control.
Every other year it produces masses of beautifully scented white flowers which the bees adore.

I suspect that the reason your neighbour's tree is dripping sap may be due to the fact that you are cutting branches off it at a time of year when the sap is rising. If you only trim it in late summer that shouldn't be a problem.

Moving it to the Gardening board would have been a better idea!😏

@21stCenturyNell Are you sure you have identified it correctly? That doesn't sound like a false acacia to me. Perhaps you could post a photo of it so someone can identify it one way or the other. Anyhow, the only time a false acacia might drip sap is from pruning cuts done at the wrong time of year. So if you are continually cutting it back, you are causing the problem yourself.
