Moving to Sheffield - which bit?

We (husband and I, both mid/late 50s) are thinking of moving to Sheffield as a step towards retirement. Both freelance so can live anywhere, daughter at uni and likely to work in London eventually. Plan is to carry on working but maybe a bit less. My husband is a huge climber and cyclist so Sheffield makes sense for him. We are thinking west of the city, ideally public transport into town but good community (nice independent cafes, local library maybe) and a 2-3 bed house under £200k. Any suggestions on areas? Thanks.

Grenoside?

Woodseats is quite nice, in the south of the city. But I think you are optimistic over what you will be able to afford. £200k will get you a 2 up, 2 down mid terrace in most of the nice areas.

Sheffield is horrendously expensive. I couldn’t get a house for under 500k in the nice parts of town when we were thinking of moving there. I used to work there and didn’t end up staying so never did buy. It was west of the centre we looked, places like millhouses, nether edge , Ecclesall.

saying that this is for sale in nether edge for 200k. , needs some work. https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/92420898#/?channel=RES_BUY But maybe cosmetic?

just be aware that in the terrace areas to the west of the city it can be quite studenty.

And you can get one in Sheffield for 200k, just not necessarily in a nice part. Might be in an ok part. But might be more off licences than nice cafes. 🤷‍♀️

saying that I did leave 8 years ago so things may have changed. Areas i didn’t used to think were that nice might be better. South of the city could be cheaper than west of the city. I had a friend who lived in dronfield who liked it there, good access to the Peaks still.
