Where would you live within 30mins of Runcorn?

We’re relocating for my husband’s job in Runcorn and I’m going round in circles trying to decide where to live!

We have a 2 year old, so good schools and a safe, family family area are important. We’d prefer a town/village feel. We’re looking to buy a detached 3/4 bed if possible. Budget around £450k.

Ideally my husband’s commute would be no more than 30 minutes. I may look for work around Chester, Merseyside or Greater Manchester, so decent access to those areas would be helpful too.

We’ll rent initially before buying and are open to Cheshire and surrounding areas.

Where would you recommend or avoid? Any hidden gems we might be missing?

Thanks

well I’d def not live in runcorn but you’ve probably worked that out already.

I’d initially look at

  1. Chester and surrounding villages, possibly even over the border into Wales (around Hawarden/Penyffordd as you can get to Runcorn easily from there
  2. The villages and suburbs to the south of Warrington (including Stockton Heath) -good for motorway if you end up working towards Manchester
  3. the Wirral- the western half

bits of Liverpool are nice too but I don’t know it well enough to recommend which bits

Oh and super close to Runcorn are Heswall/Frodsham which are def ok but too close to the motorway for me (noise/air quality)

a bit further out is a nice village called Kingsley

Echo what *Clearing has said. If you are looking around Greater Manchester I’d time the commute very carefully as it’s unlikely to be 30 minutes. You may be better coming a bit further south into Cheshire.

You are going to have to choose which good secondary school you want and work backwards from there (unless you plan on moving again). Areas in Cheshire that have good schools have pricey catchment areas especially those with the village/town vibe.
I'm not familiar with all the schools but I know of a family that moved to Grappenhall (Warrington) for this reason and others in Stockton Heath, Appleton, Daresbury.
Frodsham and Helsby seem nice but I don't know enough about the schools.
Runcorn has great roads as its a new town (very few traffic lights), Warrington is terrible for travelling through.
There are other nice areas like Lymm that has a village. I can't think of any hidden gems that feed into good schools.

Frodsham or Helsby.

be easier if you listed what is important to you. My DH works in Runcorn and we are South Manchester and it’s only a 30-40 min drive their daily

Hartford if you want village with convenience.
Delamere if you want wilderness.
Acton Bridge if you want village with a convenient train link to Runcorn!

Crosby, get the beach and the village
