Affordable/decent made to measure front doors?

So we've got our chippie who is installing the doors etc and we've got the sizes of the door and it's a lot bigger than any standard sizes catered for by Todd's doors etc. Is this unusual, are we beholden to the door companies for our front door size? Does anyone have any reccs for a door maker, can be wood or composite we don't really mind.

Find a local joiner, there will be plenty of them that will make a front door.

Ah I see, we're the Surrey/Hampshire border. We have a chippie who will do the installation etc but won't actually make the door themselves. Makes windows though!

I guess these don't come under affordable but they do seem to make large sized doors. I really really want one when we build our new extension, but the won't be for a few years

I live in a part of Hampshire where there is a college training in joinery.

There are more skilled joiners locally than we need.

One of them was sourced for me by a builder, and he made me a door at home, brought it round in its constituent parts, measured the frame, assembled and planed it to fit, morticed in the lock, fitted hinges, in a morning. I think I paid less than £300

A door is basically just a few planks, sawn, planed and chiselled to fit together, by someone who knows how.

If I lived in a place with a shortage of joiners, they would charge what customers are willing to pay.
