Recommendations for a super king divan and mattress within £2500

We’ve had our divan bed and mattress for over 20 years so, even though it’s still comfy, I feel it’s time to change it!
The bed/mattress market seems to be completely overwhelming. Can anyone give me some recommendations of where to look?
I’m looking for a super king divan and mattress and my budget is maximum £2500.
Many thanks.

Dusk is always worth a look.

Go to a bed shop. A dreams or Benson (?sp) with one of those "How hard do you like your mattress."

Try some.

Agree.

Pay the ££ to gave your old bed removed.

No random MNetter can tell you what you find comfortable. It will depend your sleep position, weight, if you have any musculoskeletal issues. If memory foam makes you faint in delight or want to vomit

Dusk are horrendous.
I can't comment on the quality of the beds because they never actually delivered mine, despite setting a number of delivery dates that meant I had to stay in all day.
I did manage to get a refund (once I had managed to find a number for customer service).

Have you looked at water beds? I have one and love it!!

Harry Benmore for a mattress, great customer service and exchange/refund policy. Plus the actual mattress is great

That hasn't been my experience after all. We got ours bed frame from there and it was fantastic quality.

I bought my bed from John Lewis instore, I tried out loads and was talked through them all . 8 years later , no regrets , it’s still incredibly comfortable .
Their staff aren’t on commission so can be totally independent with their advice and no pushy sales .
I’ll go back there when I decide I need a new one.

Don't bother with any of the bed-selling chains. Go to an independent bed shop and talk to the staff, they really know their stuff. Try lots and see what suits you best.

My recommendation is a Sealy hybrid. Lots of pockets springs underneath and a comfortable top layer. Hypnos and Vispring are also excellent.

Don't ever but a mattress you haven't tried, and definitely not one that comes vacuum packed in a bag!

I'd agree that JL are also good, along with independent bed shops as previously recommended.

I really feel that for a bed you need to go to a showroom and lie down on them.

We bought ours from Dreams but obviously theres a multitude of shops you can go to.

MissJoGrant · 20/09/2026 09:12

One thing to consider is do you have enough space to manoeuvre the super king mattress up the stairs? I was all set to get one until this was pointed out to me.

Unless, of course, you already have one or live in a bungalow.

Another option if stair wide/accessibility if an issue, is a zip and link mattress which comes in 2 parts. Essentially 2 single beds which get zipped together.

We bought ours from JL and tested them out in store

I’ve been recommended Button & Sprung so will visit their showroom at the weekend. Thanks for all the advice.
