Housing association application worries

Hi all. We are currently in social housing, 2 bed semi detached with 9 year old girl and 4 year old boy.

we are starting to realise that DD will need her own space soon, for years we thought when the time comes we can just split master bedroom into two but now I am not so sure.

I wanted to update our housing register application (we’ve been here 9 years) but wondering if our savings will affect this? We have around 20k saved at the moment (we’re saving for a deposit but not even halfway to being able to afford a 1 bed here let alone 3 bed which is min 800k) it’s also money DH has in shares for future/retirement and after I was made redundant last year we want to keep it as a safety net. Will this affect our application? We aren’t high earners, DH earns 28.5k full time and I earn around 24k part time.

alternatively; we have an attic which is unused, would a housing association consider conversion? Or extension? It’s a small 2 bed house but we love it here and don’t want to move ideally. We have no intention of growing our family.

Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?

If you applying back to the councils general housing register then check their housing allocation policy. Some councils state if you have enough in savings to buy or rent on the open market then you are not eligible. Regards to the conversion the HA won’t do it do you. You could ask to fund it yourself but I wouldn’t spend thousands on a home I don’t own. And I doubt the HA would agree if it’s not disability adaptations.
