Leak under Bath (with pics)

Help please, Just noticed water running down my kitchen wall, and after checking under the bath panel, I found this mess (photo attached). It looks like there's some serious buildup and moisture right around the underside of the bath waste and the trap.

Does this look like a failed seal on the waste itself, or an issue with the trap connections?

If I attempt to remove and reseal the waste fitting, are there any common pitfalls with I should watch out for (especially since it's a tight squeeze under there)?

Any specific products you recommend for sealing it up properly?

It may just be the plastic nuts have come loose, it should all be just hand tight. The trap may be full of debris so the water is standing and gradually leaking past the seal. Just take it off, put something underneath to catch the water first (if possible) clean the trap and put it back making sure all the joints are tight. You should be able to buy a replacement trap if anything is damaged.

Was it damp/wet around the underside of the plug hole? That might be a bit more difficult to fix, it does look a bit corroded.

I would take it all to bits (including the plug) and give it a good clean in warm soapy water with a brush. Buy some new seals and replace - might be cheaper to buy new pipe sections.

Use some silicone to re-seat the plug back onto the bath

The nut on the bottom of the bath securing the plughole looks to be corroded and will probably be a pig to get undone if you have to. I would dry it all off then put some water in the bath let it out and try to see where the water comes from, hopefully it will be from the plastic joints not the one to the plug hole.

Thank you, that’s really helpful. I’ve dried everything off and it actually looks like the water is coming from the sealant underneath the plug hole, rather than the plastic joints. It seems to be seeping out from around the underside of the plug hole when the bath is drained. The area does look quite corroded, so I’m guessing that may be the issue. Any suggestions on the parts should I be buying? I'm thinking of taking the stuff I undo to the DIY shop but do I need plumber putty/ sealant/ threading/ any specialist tools etc?

Not sure what kind of plug you have, but if its like this - the silver bit just has a screw in the middle - just unscrew & remove it. Then the black plastic part goes through the hole from the top and the lower big plastic screw squeezes it together.

Clean everything before you assemble it and just put a little silicone sealant where it squashes against the bath.

Thank you! I bought similar one from screw fix earlier this afternoon and replaced ours snd sealed it with sealant. Tested with a bath for dd, all back to normal, phew!
