Anyone have a bioethanol insert in an old fireplace?

I’ve got a couple of purely decorative Victorian fireplaces and I’ve been thinking of putting some bioethanol inserts in them but I wondered if it really is as easy as sticking an insert in the grate, putting the fuel in and setting light to it? It seems too easy and I’m a bit concerned I’ll accidentally set the chimney on fire or something.

Does anyone have anything similar? Is it really that easy?

We put a new fire place in ours with a fully enclosed unit first as I think the heat would just escape out of an open chimney. But we only light our for 10-15 minutes to heat the room (the fuel would be expensive to run for much longer) and can’t see it being effective enough if we had an open chimney.

It doesn’t smell very nice
