Need advice for blocking neighbour's cigarette smell

A new neighbour has moved in next door and we've noticed a strong cigarette smell seeping into our bedroom every evening and night. We're in an old, mid-terraced house with large gaps in the Victorian floorboards, so it isn't surprising, but it's highly unpleasant and I'm worried because our baby sleeps in our room too and is breathing it in. I'm so concerned it could affect his health.

We want to move house anyway, but in the meantime (which could he long!) is there anything I can do to block the smell other than redo the whole floor? (Which we don't want to do.) The smell is worse next to the adjoining wall. Would putting plastic sheets or boards down in thid area help? How about thick underlay?

Unfortunately he isn't the sort of man I'd feel comfortable approaching and I get he's entitled to smoke in his own house. It's privately owned housing so no landlords or anything.

Not much you can do. Except maybe a few mice through his letterbox while he is out?

I would get an air purifier for the affected room, because you can take that with you to the new place, and it will help to reassure you about what your baby is breathing in.

Obviously you could also try physical blocks like extra rugs, carpeting etc. But ventilation and air purification will be best for everyone’s health.

I don’t have any solutions for you other than (as you said yourself) to move (to a detached property if you can afford?) asap.
We had a similar problem in our old semi detached character property. We were lucky— in that although we had a baby and a toddler, the smoke was coming through into the bathroom, so they were only in there for short periods. The bedrooms were ok.
I feel for you, it’s a horrible thing to have to put up with and a legitimate concern for your child’s health.
I would probably try taping up everything with plastic sheeting out of desperation, but this is not going to look good if trying to sell your home.
@Lonzal great advice. I wish we had thought of an air purifier before we moved.
