Please explain architecture to me like I’m 5. And not the brightest 5 year old. After much debate DH and I are considering buying a house next year, it’ll likely be a renovation project, ex council house so certainly nothing flash. No moat for me, yet.
I’m just wondering has anyone made structural changes to a cheap house but brought in an architect? I’ll want a downstairs lootility (a w/c and utility room) and storage areas built in, as well as a kitchen diner and likely a loft bedroom/s. But I’m completely unsure about how we do this? Do we tell builders what we want? Or do we have to get an architect to design it? When I think of architects I think of grand designs, not a ex council house, am I being mistaken? Are they worth it? Is it adding unnecessary stress on my budget? Is it a legal requirement? So many questions! Anyone with anything to add or experience to share, I’d appreciate. Thank you ☺️
