Is a full packing service worth it for a two-bed move?

Anyone used a full packaging option when moving house? Is it really worth it? Got a 2 bed cottage....absolutely loads of flower and plant pots to move aswell

Yes. If you can, you should.

I agree, if you have a budget for it, yes do have movers and packers. You don't need me to tell you that the stress involved in packing and moving things yourself is usually off the scale. There's often as much stuff in a small house as a bigger one.

I think if you're relatively on top of home organisation it's a great idea. We're packing everything ourselves because we're needing to go through and declutter everything which has been shoved in the loft etc over the years. I don't want to be moving useless stuff to the new house.

I'm dreading having to move all my plants, hopefully the removal people will have dealt with worse!

We did it.
I'm fairly thrifty/ have a strong views around value eg sold.my flat myself via a purple bricks type company. Car is a 7 yo run around...

Have you spoken to a removals company yet, op? Ours said they'd do all the garden stuff, shed contents, garden furniture, pots, bikes, etc, the day before the main move, store it in their van, and then deliver the day after.

Definitely yes, moving day is stressful enough. Ours took beds apart and put them back together at the new house in no time at all.

I’ve never had a packing service, only a moving company, and that includes a three bed move with two young children. We emptied the loft and garage in good time, then decluttered and packed all non-essentials, moving the boxes into one room. It was then easy to pack the remaining clothes, saucepans, bedding etc in the couple of weeks before the move.

I’d rather have a full declutter before the move, rather than afterwards.

100%! We used one to move out of our 2 bed house last year and it was a godsend!

For my last move just over six years ago I used the packing service provided by the removers as I was basically on my own and it was great!

It was only a one bed to a other one bed but they sent one guy round a couple of days before moving day and he had everything except the last-minute bits and pieces boxed up in about four hours. It was such a relief to be ready so painlessly considering that I’m not the fittest and most energetic person.

packing was only about 25-30% more than just moving belongings so I
would definitely have the packing service again.

We did last time (3 bed to 5 bed) and it massively reduced the stress and disruption.

Yes, I’d say it’s worth it. I recently went through a two-bed move, and getting the packing done professionally saved me so much time and stress. Everything was packed properly, especially the fragile stuff, and moving day felt much easier.

worth every penny IMO! You literally only need to pack an overnight bag and the brewing up stuff and everything will be packed and in a van faster than you can say "flatpack bookcase". They know what order to pack in, how to protect items, and will load a van so there's barely a pocket of air left unused! If you try and do itself it takes days, if not weeks and then you still have to live around the boxes. The movers will pack in a certain order and put it straight in the van.

I was debating this with my husband the other day - roughly how much does a packing service cost?

Depends on how much it costs and how much your time is worth.

I would never allow someone else to pack my stuff, as it is an opportunity to clear stuff out and also re-organise.

Carting a load of junk to a new place doesn't really make much sense.

We did it for a 3-bed move and it was worth every penny! It was only a couple of hundred on top of the base removal price (we got removals companies to quote for the move both with and without packing so we could compare). They labelled every box with the room the stuff came from and roughly what was inside, which made the unpacking loads easier. Everything was really well packed and they provided all the packing material.

Only limits were that they wouldn't go in the loft and they wouldn't unscrew anything that was screwed into the wall. So we did all that before they arrived. You do need to declutter first though as they will blindly pack everything.

Totally worth it.

We moved from a tiny two-bed starter home and we've always said that the packing service was the best money we ever spent. The movers turned up, we had a quick chat with them to let them know what we needed left out and how they'd label the boxes, and then we basically just went out for lunch, had a browse in furniture stores to window-shop for our new place, then went back late afternoon and it was done. Then on the actual day of the move they came back and moved everything into the lorry and sorted the furniture. It was so, so worth it.

I live in a 2 bed, am single and actively trying to death clean and declutter. Even so, if I ever move, paying for packers and full moving is a non-negotiable cost, just like solicitors fees.

Hello op. I hope you don’t mind me jumping on this thread. I’ve always packed my stuff (5 moves to due to rental). I didn’t event know packing was a service!!

So how does it work do they come out and pack the stuff in the day?

Finally able to buy and moving in 6 weeks. I’m considering this now!

We used one moving from a 2 bed flat to 4 bed house. We had dcs aged 8mo and 4y and it was definitely essential!

yes, depending on the size of property and how far you're moving, some will pack on the day and others come the day before you get the keys to your new place and take the vans to storage overnight. They'll be through the house before you know it!! We didn't even blink and they had the bed frames dismantled and they can do things like hanging boxes so they just lift clothes on hangers out of the wardrobe into a special box and you put them straight in a cupboard at the other end.
