I completed on a house sale today - I'm only selling, as I've moved into a flat that my husband already owns. It's nearly 10pm and the money is still not in my bank account and I'm now worried. I didn't want to hand over the keys until I had the funds but the estate agents gave their set to the new owners already so that they could move in. Is this normal? I'm spiralling and I won't be able to contact the solicitors until Tuesday now but I'm going to call the estate agents in the morning. I called them at 3 and they said I would have the money within an hour or close of the day latest. Can anyone reassure me?

It may be next working way if they missed the banking cut off time.
I'm no lawyer, but I believe they cannot legally complete without the funds going to your solicitor, so I wouldn't panic.

Legal completion is when your solicitor receives the funds. The estate agent is authorised to release keys when your solicitor has the funds. You can’t withhold keys until you have the money.
Today as a completion day would be exceptionally busy, last day of the month and weekend prior to bank holiday. The solicitor would have prioritised redemptions to lenders before sending money to you. It may also be that they set up a bacs payment rather TT payment which clears in 3 days. The estate agent will be of no use to chase tomorrow as they are not dealing with your completion funds. Call your solicitor on Tuesday morning and find out what happened. I appreciate you’re concerned and upset but worst case scenario the funds are still in their client account.
