Anti house martin spikes

Has any one any experience of the plastic spikes to deter house martins. All three sides of our house has been taken over, I would like just one area to have spikes, allowing us to sit outside in our tiny garden, the house martins can keep the rest. Neigbours have put boards up but the h.m nest under those

I was ready to say you’re being unreasonable but it sounds as though you’re blessed with a lot of birds!

What about shelves with the underside protected? Wedged rather than flat? I’d love to have them, so im not much use! I would love to get boxes fitted to my house, but it’s hard to access.

🙁 The number of house martins has nearly halved in the last 30 years.

I'd be really pleased if we had them coming back to nest here again, because we've not seen them for a very long time.

we had them at our old house and i loved them as I do here, just not in this one space we want to sit outside in our postage stamp size garden.

As I said we had house martins at our old house and it was not unusual to come home to broken up house martin nests on the ground, the culprits, Jackdaws, we also had quite a few trees and it was common to see the Jackdaws harassing other birds at nesting time, stealing eggs and young from other birds nests. we lived there for over ten years with lots of different types of birds coming to the bird feeders in the early days, by the time we moved we had some house sparrows and masses of jackdaws, I honestly believe in some areas Jackdaws are to blame for the decrease in the small bird population.
