Wood or metal window frames?

I’m choosing some new French doors for a 1930s house. They are to replace traditional wooden doors with small panes. It’s in a bright, south facing setting in a room which has some original features such as a cornice ceiling.
I’m choosing between wood frames £££££ or heritage aluminium £££. Which would you recommend?

We're in a 1930s house and have replaced the pvc sliding glass door with oak framed glass doors. They're much nicer but do require maintenance. As far as we can see from the original foot print the there was always a door here. Wish I knew what they'd had.
