Does your neighbourhood have a pleasant buzz about it?

We have started our house hunt in earnest. We currently live near Bermondsey Street which is the most wonderful historical “village vibe” high street (pedestrianised which makes a huge difference) with independent cafes and restaurants and always jam packed with people, so you feel that London buzz all the time.

We absolutely love it here but need to move due to our growing family, we would like a garden and it’s an apartment-centric location.

If you live in Zone 2 to Zone 4 London and have “cool” coffee shops and wine bars and local places that people go to with a bit of a buzz, please recommend me your neighbourhood?

We have been to check out a few of the recommendations that are on the forums and were disappointed to find restaurants empty at lunch time on the weekend - looking for somewhere that feels like it’s thriving and has young families.

Thank you 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

We definitely have a buzz in Brixton and way more young families than you’d expect. But also quite a lot of crack addicts…

I’ve moved to Somerset now, but I used to live near Ally Pally. It’s close to Crouch End and Muswell Hill which are nice areas. It’s family friendly, with nice parks (Alexandra Park, Highgate Woods, Parkland Walk etc) good schools (APS has an excellent reputation) and quick access to Moorgate from Alexandra Palace station.

Yes. Blackheath. Greenwich too. Buzzy, fun, relaxed, very villagey. Loads of great things to do.

East Dulwich!!! + Peckham 15 mins walk East, Dulwich Village 15 mins South, Camberwell 15 mins North and Herne Hill 15 mins West! It’s honestly the best of all worlds.

Beckenham could be worth a look the high street has numerous cafe/ bars/ restaurants which are always busy, lots of young families schools are excellent also really good open spaces, Beckenham Place Park has loads of events throughout the year good play park swimming lake, Croydon Recreation Ground (which is where the refurbished David Bowie bandstand is) has a soul music two day festival every September.
excellent leisure centre & newly refurbished library, transport links are very good, supermarkets we have Waitrose/M&S/Sainsburys
Penge is slightly grittier has a friendly vibe some excellent restaurants a few good pubs the high street is a bit meh but does have some useful shops, only ten minute walk to Crystal Palace Park which is fantastic.

Many such places with a more local character further south.
