Questions to ask when getting quotes for a new driveway

We need a new driveway installed as our one is falling apart is I could really do with some advice on what questions to ask when getting quotes. We don't seem to have much luck with our tradesmen at the moment so I am determined to manage this better. Any advice on what went well or not so well for you would be highly appreciated!

Find out what they use for the base - our driveway is a hardcore base and looks good as new, our neighbours went with cheaper cowboys who laid their driveway on pretty much a sand base and it’s all dippy!

What type of surface do you want? Presumably they will need to remove the existing drive. I’d ask what they recommend, how long it will take to do, drainage and price of course.

Ask to see some work that they have done. Have a walk around your neighbourhood, look at some driveways that you like and put a note through the door leaving your name and number and ask if they would be prepared to tell you who did it. Some will, some won't, but I have done that when having a new kitchen, driveway and security bollards. I have found that most people are happy to share if they are pleased with the work they have had done.

It will probably be block paving.

This. Our neighbours went cheap and had to replace whole thing 3 years later

What drainage is required?
