Best way to search for rural house with large plot?

Hi all,

I'm casually looking for a detached rural property with between 1/3 to and acre of land. Outbuildings preffered. I'm really struggling on Zoopla and Right move. Despite adding rural and land as filters it brings up houses on housing estates, which is the opposite of what I want. I have new builds turned off. Not sure what the best way to search is. Any help appreciated.

On zoopla maybe try adding the keyword "grounds"

I just went into Chat GPT and asked the following:

Can you identify any residential properties currently for sale within 20 miles of (my nearest small city) that mention any of the following in the description: land. Acre. Acres. Large garden.

Within a one or two seconds it came back with loads of them, laid out in a list format with the relevant references to land size highlighted.

Honestly, it's mind blowing, isn't it?

You ever tried not being a sarcastic dickhead? No idea why anyone posts on here given they could just ask CHATGPT.

Clearly I've tried this already. Nothing comes up apart from "try On the Marker “

On right move add acre as a search word then you should get every jouse that mentions acre ratherthan the sizeyou are looking for

Annex is a useless keyword as i have found

Maybe try searching an estate agent's own site directly? Are you looking in a particular area?

If you select Land in the Property Type option on Rightmove it will give you some options.

Obviously a lot of the selections will just be the land, but it does come up with small holdings and houses with land as well.

Where are you looking in the country? Use the power of MN, we love a RightMove search 😀

There’s just not that many relatively small detached properties on a relatively large plot of land so hard to search. So I’m not sure your search parameters are the issue. You just have to be patient.

Know of one in suffolk but its outside the building envelope so dont think extending would be good

My bungalow was marketed as having a large garden - on a half acre plot. Include large garden.

I am searching for similar. Only i am also looking for no through road. Even if you put in cul de sac it often describes a property as ‘tucked away’ only to find a bypass or motorway behind it.
ive found the quickest way is to use on the market and just move around the map until you see a marker in a good location. Then you can click on it.
there doesnt seem to be much out there atm. I found a dream house in may but someone beat me to it and nothing else compares since.

There is a Facebook page called Smallholdings and Rural Properties with Land for Sale UK for that sort of property - lots for sale by owner plus some agents on there too

I spent time looking into AI, spent time thinking about the right key words to deliver the results you wanted and then told you about it. If you didn't get a useful answer when you asked AI perhaps you didn't use the right key words?

It says a lot about you as a person that you could read that, automatically assume it to be sarcasm and then insult the person who tried to help.

Do your search on rightmove for the area you want / price range etc as normal. Once you have done your search there is an option at the top of the results that says 'prioritise properties with.. ' click on that and just type in your keywords like 'land' or 'acre' and it will filter the results

Have a look at the smallholding FB groups. There are usually a good variety of rural properties available in all price brackets (not all smallholdings) but you could also put a post on yourself with details of what you're looking for.

Whereabouts in the country? There are quite a few properties in my area including my own that would tick the box (I’m not selling though - yet!)
