Missing certificate - electrician just issued a new one. Is this right?

I moved into my home 5 years ago and had a partial rewire and fuse box replacement done. I requested the certification at the time.

5 years later I'm about to move. Can't find the certificate. Call the electrician and it turns out it wasn't issued after all. Call him up and he says I'm right, he never issued one and he'll send one.

The NICEIC certificate is dated with 'Date complete' as today's date which doesn't seem right.

Should I just tell him I don't want it and and get indemnity insurance instead?

He did the work. By issuing the cert he's putting his name against the work and signing it off. I don't understand why you wouldn't want that?

Because if there's an issue with the electrics and the work is uncovered by another electrician who can clearly see it is not brand new, I will have been shown to have been lying on relevant property sale forms?

the electrician should issue the certificate as a copy of the original and date it when the work took place 5 years ago. That would be evidence that is accurate and truthful.

if requested, you can state truthfully that the certificate wasnt issued at the time, but the work was done (and you paid £xxx for that work) so you contacted the electrician who did the work and he issued the certificate to cover the work he did 5 years ago.

it doesn't need to be any more complicated than that, and a solicitor isn't going to be able to add any further value to that.

I'd just ask him to change the date. Probably just got it wrong and should take a few seconds to change I would have thought.
But I wonder if you really need it?
I guess some buyers but not all I wouldn't have thought.

I didn't think you could do a copy without issuing an original. I can't see anything online about it but great if you can.

He's reissued it with a 2021 date, waiting to see what if any issues this causes!

He's reissued with the old date but I looking online it suggests you can't usually do that.

I would definitely want certificates - or indemnity insurance otherwise - but then I'm an electrician's daughter and have heard some horror stories about electrics (I would have asked my dear Dad in the past).

Just hand it over to your buyers solicitors and see what they say. The work has been done and a certificate issued. They should be happy with that.
