I am useless at choosing colours and really need some interior design help please.

I have an small north facing office and want a cosy but restful vibe. I have bought these curtains but cannot decide on the right colour for the wall. I wanted a warm pinky tone but don't know if that's a good idea in a north facing room? I am honestly useless at this. I go in other people's houses and everything just works but I can't seem to make good choices.

Could do with some advice from someone with a better eye than me.

A warm pinky colour will be great in a North facing room but you will need tester pots because it will look very different in the room than in the shop. I would get aomerhing like the pink in the curtains but lighter.

If it's a small office I'd be inclined to be brave and colour drench in one of the darker tones from the curtains. The darker red/pink, green or there are some lovely blues in the birds too.

I was going to say Setting Plaster F&B. What makes it good is that is has a neutral not red undertone so it isnt a sickly pink, more a warm neutral.

Lovely curtains! I would go for a Farrow and Ball greeny grey. Try Mizzle, light blue or Theresa’s Green. Get samples pots and buy the real thing not colour matched versions.

Setting Plaster every time.

Farrow & Ball Pink Ground may be worth a look. I have it in my north facing bedroom and it's quite an easy colour to live with. Not 'in your face', just a nice, warm tone. I like it so much I also painted my south facing kitchen in it.

I, personally, did not like Setting Plaster as much in a north facing room. I think the north facing light affects that colour a lot more.

I have this in my office, it has a more pink tone than in the photo. It’s make room really cozy, warm but subtle.

I love those curtains OP. I am not brave enough to go with pink, and would probably have a very light green.

See, Setting Plaster was so brown in my porch, so I went with Lick Pink no2- very subtle, but more peachy.

Tried the tester on bathroom panelling & still brown. I have Dulux Pressed Petal & it's fabulous. I hace recommended it to numerous people on the FB F&B group who have also found Setting Plaster too brown. Worth a thought.

Oh! The algorithm agrees with me! That shade is v similar to the walls of the room I am sitting in now.

This is why you must buy tester pots as the light changes everything! I paint A4 sheets in the colours and then put those up so I save my wall and I can move sheets around the room to see how the light falls.

I have setting plaster in my bathroom. I think it would be too much with those curtains

I had Julie's Dream from Little Greene in my north facing room which felt really warm without looking literally pink - it was a pinky neutral.

This is good advice. The light in north facing rooms can change paints significantly. Using A4 sheets and moving them really helps. Good luck.

Have a look at Coat paints. They are specifically designed to work well in UK light and you can get a sample pack in a range of colours to test.

I'd go for the pink/peach colour, then one wall in that AMAZING kingfisher/turquoise blue on the birds .... or even on all the walls.

I wouldn't advise a feature wall particularly in an office which could be a smaller space.

We've been colour drenching for ten years now and it definitely makes a space appear larger as well as making window frames 'disappear'.

The curtains are lovely @petitpasta and there's plenty of options for paint colours there. The green looks great in the chat gpt suggestion, but I'd probably go with pink, although I'm biased!

We've used lots of pink in our 200 year old cottage - Pompadour, Nicaragua and Jonquil, all from Edward Bulmer - but they are all south-facing except the hall/stairs/landing with its north-facing window, where we've used Jonquil which is similar but prettier than Setting Plaster. It gives a lovely warm glow to the space.

We colour drenched the (east-facing) bathroom at our previous house in Setting Plaster and whilst it definitely didn't look brown, it had a rather washed out appearance imo.
