Has anyone successfully claimed compensation from Anglian Home Improvements?

Has anyone else had a terrible experience with Anglian Home Improvements?

We approached Anglian to convert our conservatory into an extension with a tiled roof last summer, and were talked into the orangery roof by the sales advisor because the solaroof glass would 'climate control the unit' and keep it 'cool in Summer and warm in Winter'. We have now spent a ridiculous amount of money on another conservatory that is opened up to the rest of the house. We have had room temperatures of 13°C in the winter and 39.5°C in the summer, which has now made that room and our lounge uninhabitable and ruined the children's playroom. Anglian's customer service and legal department have refused to engage with us since we requested a refund for the roof in April. The only good thing about the company has been the regional manager, who has tried his best to resolve matters. The 2-3 week installation took 6 months and was riddled with mistakes, poor quality workmanship and cheap finishings. We would strongly recommend going elsewhere because you can probably get something much better for half the price. There's also a Facebook group with over 9,000 dissatisfied customers, so we're not the only ones!

If anyone has managed to obtain a refund/compensation from them successfully I'd be so grateful to hear from you.

There is a Double Glazing and Conservatory Ombudsman you can use as the last resort.

Firstly check if they are a member of DGCOS https://www.dgcos.org.uk/

also find out their internal complaints process and go through that process to document to them what you were sold, why it doesn't do the intended job of heat control and any other quality issues. Cite the Consumer Rights Act (2015), which states the company has to supply goods and services that are fit for purpose and installations carried out with the required competency and skills.

tell them you intend to take the case to the Ombudsman if they do not respond within a reasonable time (you could set it to 14 days which is reasonable to respond to your complaint). Keep all documentation and correspondence as an audit trail.

this tends to sharpen their attention. If they don't give you satisfaction and mess you around, contact the Ombudsman and say you've tried your best to go through their internal complaints procedure and they will probably kick them up the bum and get things moving,

I would consider speaking with ' chattoyourbuilder' and get a written report from them to strengthen your case. Really sorry you are having to deal with this- looks really dodgy.

They are useless and really don’t care. Our front door is a disaster. They came out once and repainted it but then told us it was out of guarantee and they agreed it was very disappointing to spend a lot of money on something that didn’t last!

@LJG26 , I had a run in with them some years ago and a narrow escape. I would recommend everyone to avoid them like the plague. I’m sorry you’re having problems you need to get some legal advice. Good luck.

Thank you so much everyone. We've followed their complaints procedure and they've stopped responding. Anglian aren't registered with the DGCOS so they won't help and the Glass and Glazing Federation Ombudsman won't touch it because we've asked for a refund. It's an absolute train wreck so thought I had better spread to word to save others from getting into the same trouble. On the flip side I'd be very interested to hear from anyone who has had an orangery and is happy with it, as there is a chance they've just installed it really badly....!
