Solar film questions

We are considering having solar film installed in our house. We are south facing so considering both front and west side. We are also in a conservation area so it needs to not change the look of the front of the house.

If you have had it done have you found it effective?

Does it reduce the light a lot?

What product/brand did you use?

Was it worth it?

How costly was it? (I appreciate that really depends on the size of the house and type of windows.)

you can buy it pretty cheap on Amazon and do a DIY version on a small area and see what you think. it doesn't have to be a big expensive install.

I don't know if making the windows at the front look shiny and reflective would count as changing the look of the house in a conservation area

Have just installed purlfrost film - 80% version on roof lights which is very reflective and 50% on doors which isn’t too bad. Looks slightly tinted/dusty. Who knows if it works as weather has changed! It’s fairly easy to apply by yourself if you can access the windows and are moderately competent…

Definitely not attempting to do it ourselves. Too many windows. Kitchen windows alone have 14 panes. And the company we have contacted are recommending external fitting. Might DIY the utility room door though as it’s only one pane.

We are looking at solar film by 3M which apparently isn’t reflective or shiny.
