Mess after painter decorator left, even though I was getting new carpets

Hi. My painter decorator seemed so good and efficient. He said though he ran out of time to paint my airing cupboard. Left with all the mess, rubbish bags and door off the hinge. He knew we were getting new carts in a couple of weeks but is it normal to just leave such a mess? He did have a vacuum cleaner but didn’t use it on his last day

Absolutely not. That’s shocking. Tell him you’ve changed your mind about the carpets and may keep the wooden flooring so he will have to come back and clean it all up

No that’s not normal, especially the door if he was the one to take it off. Did you pay him per day/hour or did you pay him for a specified amount of work? If the latter he should have finished the airing cupboard too if that was meant to be included.

Good point Yonem. He quoted for the whole work, not an hourly rate. And he did take off the door, only painted 1 side and said ran out of time to the the other side!

If he was paid for the job then he needs to arrange another time to come back and complete it!
