Hi
Im thinking of moving to the huddersfield area. Its cheaper and easy for work. I was just wondering if any one had any recommendations. Im single so hoping for somewhere with a bit of a community or things going so I can hopefully meet new people. Coffee shops, yoga and stuff would be nice. Ive been looking at Lindley. Not sure if anyone knows this area.
Thanks

I grew up close to Lindley and my Dad still lives there. Lots of cafes and restaurants and well placed for the M62 and accessing the centre of town .The primary school has a good reputation if that's important. Wide range of housing as well. I'm pretty sure there will be yoga classes etc - if not in Lindley then Marsh which is just down the road. I'd move back to that side of Huddersfield if we could!

I grew up in Marsh, but a long time ago, so I don’t know what’s there now. Lindley sounds like a good move.

I was going to suggest Lindley too.

Offherrockingchair · 06/07/2026 22:15

Holmfirth? Slaithwaite? Salendine Nook?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/07/2026 22:59

Where is work?
Do you want urban or rural?

Lindley is probably as nice as urban Huddersfield gets, but the outlying small towns and villages - Honley, Slaithwaite, Denby Dale, Marsden, Meltham and Holmfirth are all nice, but possibly less handy for work.

NotSureNeedSomething · 07/07/2026 00:01

Lots of friends who live in Lindley, Honley, Holmfirth - Lindley has yoga/coffee shops/a gym i believe
not sure about community? But there are events and it is a village

RockinCara · 07/07/2026 00:05

Lindley is a good choice. Slaithwaite would be good too. Or Holmfirth/Honley. Marsden is lovely, but obviously further away from the town (which would suit me).

Obeseandashamed · 07/07/2026 00:36

Lots of friends live in Lindley. Holmfirth is gorgeous but much more rural than Lindley. Upperthong, Meltham, Honley, Fixby and some parts of Edgerton and Edgerton are also nice.

If “handy for work” is reliant of trains, then beware that Huddersfield station and rail routes into it are severely impacted by the Transpennine Upgrade and will be for a few years.

Thanks so much all. I love got a car so trains isnt too much of a problem. I do love the countryside but think id just be abit wary of moving to a more rural area ans not knowing anyone and feeling isolated.

I live in Slaithwaite and it would tick a lot of your boxes. We have a Reformer Pilates studio and a yoga studio, and a council leisure centre with a pool and various yoga and other classes. We also have a dance/bungee exercise/pole dance/aerial yoga studio. Easy walks into the countryside, a train station (which Lindley doesn’t have), plenty of coffee shops. We also have networks and clubs - running clubs, co working places, a local girls meet up group to make friends…

If I didn’t rely on trains for works, I’d probably move to Holmfirth though.

Where is work? As that would change my recommendation.

None of the places mentioned are particularly rural. The most so would be Marsden, as it’s the last village before the hills/moors. But it’s not especially rural in itself, just has nice views. The village itself has a coop, plenty of independent shops, loads of cafes and bars, a small library in a community building that has a stage and hosts lots of events like quizzes and gigs. There is a yoga studio and lots of other classes take place in the hall with the stage. Plus direct trains and or buses to Manchester and Leeds. So it’s not like a quiet, lonely village with only one bus a week.

I live over the hill on the Manchester side. I like living in the countryside, so Marsden is my choice. My SILs live in Lindley, Slaithwaite and Linthwaite and while they’re perfectly nice, they feel like sprawling suburbia and definitely not village like, even with the canal and nice cafes etc.

But have a drive around. Go to a few pubs/shops/cafes in each place. See what takes your fancy. 🙂

Thank you. Work at the moment is all around Huddersfield, towards Leeds. So just good links to the m62 would be good. But also having a train station would be great as some days I can work from the office which is in Leeds.
I think thats a great idea having a drive about. I really love the sound of both Slaithwaite and Marsden. Two places I prob wouldn't have considered before. So thank you so much for this.
