Any ideas on what to put in place of a non working gas fire?

I'm doing up my place so that I can rent it out, but there is a horrible gas fire that doesn't work and I'd like to get rid of it.

It's fixed to a chimney breast in the living room (I'm scared to take it out in case of spiders as I have real phobia, but I know I need to remove it!). There is already central heating so there is no need for another fire.

Any ideas what I can put in it's place that looks attractive and that will not breach health and safety, I don't fancy getting sued!

I got the gas turned off on mine and put a radiator cabinet in front of it.

Is there a back boiler behind it?

I cant take mine out for this reason so have hidden if till we can get a combi boiler etc instead.

There isn't anything behind it, there's just a gap, where it was probably used as a fireplace many moons ago.
