I’m 57, single, no DC. I’m selling my house in east London, partly due to the fact I’ve never really settled here even though I’ve been here many years, I have pretty much zero ‘community’. I think a lot of it is down to not having children, and not working locally. I’ve tried to throw myself into social things but they’ve never really stuck.
I’ve decided to move to Teddington, or Greenwich (Maze Hill or west Greenwich). I want to stay within London as I like galleries, theatre, have a couple of friends in other areas of London and don’t want to cut myself off from work opportunities as need to work a few more years. I also want green spaces and love the river. I’m arty so like an arty feel as well (not sure Teddington really has that).
I’m scared though that again I’m not going to hit my demographic. Teddington seems to be lots of young families, plus people well into pension age. I fall inbetween that. Greenwich would be a mix of all sorts, so I feel I’d have more of a chance but also that it will have more transient people, so you make friends but they then move on (another issue I’ve had in east London).
Any views on either area gratefully received. I have looked at other areas as well but wasn’t particularly struck by any of them - Peckham, Crystal Palace, Forest Hill, Wanstead. I’m not interested in east London / Essex borders in general, I’m in a rut and would like a fresh start.
