Hello,
First time posting, I’m after some advice for my DD23 who has just moved into a flat with her boyfriend (23). She was previously in a lovely 3 bed flat with 2 other girls. Bf has just moved out of his mum’s.
The flat they have moved into seems to have a big problem with its bathroom. It’s integral if that’s the right word, no windows. It does seem to have an extractor fan but not sure how efficient it is.
I helped her move her stuff in yesterday so that’s the first time I saw it other than pictures. The bathroom looks like it’s either had a leak or the condensation in there has been really bad as the floor feels warped under the Lino and the skirting boards look ‘swollen’ iykwim.
Clearly this didn’t ring alarm bells for either of them when they viewed the place and I think they were grateful they could find somewhere close to both their employers that they could afford.
The rest of the place is grubby and I spent most of yesterday washing the walls and scrubbing the skirting boards in the other rooms but I’m at a loss with the bathroom.
They are obviously both adults and have voices themselves but I just wondered what, if anything, they can ask of the letting agent or landlord? I suggested they ask whether there has been a leak previously that was known about and it’s the after effects or if it is the result of poor ventilation from the previous tenants’ use. I also suggested they ask for someone to come and take a look at the extractor fan to check it’s working as it should.
I understand that even in the first year of a rental agreement they only need to give 2 months notice, is that right? So I guess they could try and stick it out until they find somewhere nicer?
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
