Considering buying a ‘cheap’ £1.6m house

London house prices are just insane. House hunting here tricks you into thinking truly boggling numbers are ‘cheap’ and ‘good value’ when realistically you’re looking at something in a shit neighbourhood, shit condition or cramped and backing onto a main road. I can’t get my head around it.

I'm not in London but 500 ISH miles North.
That's mental money, that would buy some house in my home city and surrounding rural areas.

After 25yrs renting in South London, I am relocating and buying in the north west. I’m buying a brand new detached new build, same price of a 2 bed flat in my block. Cheaper living here I come.

You can get a lovely 3 bed terrace for £1.6m round here? Maybe even a 4 bed on a less nice road further from the tube.

Plus the £100k stamp duty of course…!

Yeah but it has been flat for the last 10 years.
