How do you use throws on your settee without it looking shit?

Subject says it all 😁

I have new cream covers on an old settee and I’d like them to stay nice just for a little while. Although covering them with a throw defeats the point of having cream covers a bit!

I have lots of throws I could use but how do you make it look nice, not like someone’s tipped the washing over it?

The only thing that works for me is having a throw that is MUCH bigger than the sofa, so the throw goes right over in all directions. The ones that look worst I think are the ones that only just fit so every time someone sits down the throw gets pulled down and flops.

So buy the absolute biggest you can get (I have a four seater sofa and a throw that is a bedspread for a super king sized bed, to get the size).

Agree with pp. Get a huge throw. Adjust it constantly. Or just clean your cream sofa when it gets dirty. You will never see it if you keep the throw on.

Yeah just budget for a clean every so often if you want cream sofas tbh.

I have a couple of throws the same colour as the two cushions and just fold it over the back. Looks fine. I change the colours a few times with the seasons. Like my mum used to do. And she matched her curtains and rugs. I'm turning into her. 😳

I was going to buy a new sofa with lovely patterned covers (stripes, iirc) a bit ago. But I have a horrible dog and it occurred to me that I was going to have to keep a throw over the sofa all the time to protect against mud, hair, dribble, bits of dismembered rodent etc, so I stuck with the old sofa and the big, washable throw. Saved myself a fortune!
