What cushion colours?

What colour cushions would you recommended for this couch to liven up the room? I’m a bit stuck. Wall is a sage green colour and carpet is grey. Can’t be blue/navy as I have blue on the couch in the next room.

It's hard to tell as this is just one corner of the room. Is anything in the rest of the room?

I wouldn't rule out navy just because you have it in a different room but I would go for patterned ones as everything in this picture is plain.
I can't quite tell from the photo what colour the curtains are.

This are nice for going with the sage but bringing in a pop of colour.

I like @Zonder's suggestion and agree that it looks like you need some pattern in the space. Homesense/TK Maxx is another good place to find cushions and John Lewis have some great designs at the moment.

When we had a cream sofa with olive green walls at our previous house, I added cushions in a mad mix of colours/patterns but these were influenced by the antique Persian rug we used in the room. Colours in the rug include dark olive, pale blue, turquoise and pink. I mostly buy designer remnants and make my own cushions although we did have a couple from Timorous Beasties too.

If you want to brighten up the room, change the carpet. The grey carpet is what is giving the room cold, sad vibes.

Cushions are a lot cheaper than carpet.

Yes of course but honestly, I’d rather save the money you would spend on cushions and accessories and save up to get a new carpet or even a lighter, warmer coloured rug to cover most of it.

Difficult without seeing the full room.
From my perspective you need pattern and texture and a large colourful rug too.
Also some pcitures/art /mirror on the walls.
Houseplants always help too

Terracotta color??

Latitudeohyeah · 01/05/2026 13:35

Also warm browns- kind of like sisal.

My immediate thought was a shocking pink in a pattern. What colour are your curtains?

FettchYeSandbagges · 01/05/2026 13:46

A whole bunch of different ones in a variety of patterns and shades of green & cream, with the odd touch of rose pink or terracotta thrown in. Also like suggestion by @24Dogcuddler re Orla Keily patterns.

I have listed these ideas from Farrow and Ball inspiration for green living rooms. Several things stand out to me. A rug with colour. Or you could have an interesting coffee table. Cushions can be quite eclectic and don’t go with one colour and not all dark colours. Get another chair that’s colourful. Use curated wall art. Make the space welcoming and go beyond cushions. Look at lights, side tables and window treatments too.

Thanks for all the great suggestions guys, I should have added these photos to help show the whole room. A rug would look amazing but kids use it as a playroom so at this stage a rug would get in their way with playing trains etc. It does need some wall art once I find the right piece, the couch just looks so plain at the moment.

I think that the sage green is pretty neutral really. I’d get some different curtains that will brighten up the whole room amd then get cushions to go with those.

Zonder · 01/05/2026 22:06

I would definitely go with some bright pink and leafy green like the cushion I linked above or something as a detail on cushions and maybe pull that out in some art work to coordinate. It would lift the whole room.
