What is this? Is it wallpaper?

I can’t tell! If it’s not wallpaper, is it some new on-trend decorating technique? To my rubbish eyes it looks like mould but all other pics of the house (I’m browsing RightMove) show it in good condition.

Ew. Looks like damp patches badly partially repaired. Ew IMHO.
We saw a lot of houses when we were looking. Saw some sights, I can tell you, in the quest for 'the one'. Nothing would surprise me!

Zebracat · 23/04/2026 16:29

Bloody hell! There is such a mismatch between the furniture and the chi chi light and the hoarder house walls. It can’t be wallpaper, no one would do that.

Isseywith2witchycats · 23/04/2026 16:35

Looks like peeling mouldy plaster to me, if the rest of the house doesn't look damp may be a localised ingress from a down pipe or roof leak

Winter2020 · 23/04/2026 16:38

Perhaps rather than trying to cover up a problem area they have left it tidy but showing the problem so buyers can see it.

Is it a basement flat?

GrandmasCat · 23/04/2026 16:38

Considering you say the rest of the house seems ok my bet is that is a wall mural, pretty much like wallpaper so don’t let it put you off, it costs peanuts to paint it over and just a little amount of work to remove it.

MrsTravelBug · 23/04/2026 16:45

The bit above the sofa and the colours matching the decor make me think (ugly) mural rather than damp.

No it’s a house. If it’s a decor choice, it’s not one I’ve seen anywhere else 😬

That is soo weird. I just can’t make it out to be honest. No one would surely market a house in that condition?

Edited - I’ve just looked again and think I’m starting to see an angelic face on the profile. With the mould being the hair?

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 23/04/2026 17:06

@Ferryl so you have to go see this house now, because we need to know.
(I definitely still think it's a shit damp wall. I mean, why the bit hidden in the corner of it's decor? Nah. 😂)

I’m not seeing anything angelic! Do you mean by the light?

@TemporarilyCantDoMyself it’s about 200 miles away from where I currently live otherwise I’d happily oblige!

Went to look for the angel, couldn’t see it, but the smaller patch looks like Mr Pickwick and there’s a dead cartoon raccoon in the big bit.show us the listing , maybe it’s near me. I’d definitely go.

TittyGajillions · 26/04/2026 09:41

Urgh that's horrendous and I can't unsee the penis in the patch on the left.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 26/04/2026 10:27

How odd. If you can’t go and see it, can you ring the estate agent and ask what it is?! We need to know what this is 😜

SqueakyFromme · 26/04/2026 10:29

Daryl Hannah and Charlie Sheen did a similar decorating technique in their ‘loft’ in the Wall Street film. (awful)

Ferryl · 26/04/2026 19:29

I am actually contemplating going to see it but, as said, it’s a long way away so just canvassing more opinions. I’m attaching 2 more pictures - one of a nice kitchen, and one of a different but similarly decorated area! What on earth is it?!

What is this? Is it wallpaper?

Oh. Now that you’ve said that, I can see it too …

😂 @Zebracat and dead cartoon raccoon!

Ok we have an answer. I should have read the description before subjecting you all to what is, apparently:

”a wall finished with stunning liquid metal veneer plaster”

Wow.

SqueakyFromme · 26/04/2026 20:07

Stunning kitchen ❤️

Mumwithbaggage · 26/04/2026 22:58

Yes, looks like some v expensive but slightly dodgy taste gold plaster type job. Te cushions on the sofa echo it.

But....... but........ WHY???
Confused

CarrieMoonbeams · 26/04/2026 23:12

Woooo, that's .... bold! Is it meant to look like the inside of a stone, do you think? My dad used to have a piece of polished quartz stone when I was a kid, so this kind of reminds me of that.

longtompot · 27/04/2026 13:04

@Ferryl I was going to say mould but having found the Zoopla listing I can see it's a design feature! Sort of works as a whole, but just seeing a small section give mouldy vibes. I bet they spent a lot of money on it
