Rock glue to stop weeds

My garden is gravel and I have an on going battle with weeds. I am saving up to have is lawn laid again as it will be easier to maintain. My colleague suggested covering the gravel with glue to prevent weeds. Does this work? Is it a good solution?

Not heard of that. Someone in our neighbourhood has what I can only describe as a massive sheet of gravel drive for their driveway and it seems to attract very few weeds and only in the few joins. I pass it often but obviously do not know if they treat it regularly.

Make sure you consider drainage. If the water cannot soak down into the ground where is it going to go?

DrySherry · 20/04/2026 11:34

I use diluted 40% vinegar sprayed on my gravel drive. Kills all the weeds and is biodegradable. Cheaper than weedkiller too. Needs doing spring and autumn but doesn't take long.
Does tend to make me want fish and chips though for a couple of days.

Weeds will grow on anything. Roofs, cracks in walls, pavements and ancient temples are no match for them. I can't see how glue would make a difference.

No that’s a ridiculous suggestion. It will be time limited and think about all that plastic disintegrating into the land below. Sounds slippy too. I agree with @SpringHasSprungTheGrassIsRiz and @HarryVanderspeigle .

@Answercall sound like it’s a Resin drive.

@DrySherry is correct. Yes hands on maintenance but a very sensible suggestion until it’s lawned.

AuldWeegie · 20/04/2026 12:56

Perhaps your colleague is thinking of resin driveways.

Regular weedkiller would be best between now and laying lawn.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/04/2026 15:18

@SpringHasSprungTheGrassIsRiz good point!
@AuldWeegie no, that’s what I thought she meant, but she showed it to me and it’s actual glue that you put over the stones. I did also wonder about the cat digging In it as well.

@Toddlerteaplease I imagine it's this sort of thing your colleague means. I looked into this for a gravel path we are putting in but we are going to do resin bonded gravel instead as it needs to be wheelchair safe.

I keep trying to post a link but it won't let me but b&q along with loads of other places, do the product, look up gravel hold
