Hating the wet room!

We moved house in November and both bathrooms are wet rooms, I hate them and cannot see the appeal whatsoever.

If you have a wet room what do you do about a bath mat? I don’t want to step out of the shower into a puddle of water but a bath mat just ends up soaking wet, takes forever to dry and ends up smell of damp! The whole bathroom floor just ends up like a paddling pool and then the bedroom carpet is wet from our feet.

Is there a magic bath mat I’m not aware of?!

It sounds like the drainage isn't working as it should.

Agree - I find them weird and clinical. Also very tending to damp if not really well ventilated. The steam/water spray gets on everything too.
I would put a thick fluffy cotton bathmat in the bedroom, just outside the wetroom, so at least you've got something drying to step onto.

The only drain is in the middle of the shower but so much of the water ends up outside, we have a partial shower screen but it’s not enough.

Thanks I’ll definitely get one of these for our bathroom, the kids (12 & 17) one is a disaster as their bath mat gets soaked so they put it on the towel rail and it just stays there dripping wet!

I’ll buy a bath mat for outside the bathroom doors today so at least we can have dry feet. I just can’t work out why people love them so much and you’re right about the spray, everything is soaked!

I think they're one grab rail away from looking like a hospital bathroom.

I would install a better shower screen.

We have a squeegee and under floor heating. I also put the dehumidifier in there and dry laundry

My sister had a home with a wet room.
She hated it, every time she showed water everywhere 🙄 even with a shower curtain.

She had a bath and shower put in just redone the whole bathroom.

Hate wet rooms, they remind me of 1970s swimming pool changing rooms.

Get a duck board, that's the only solution I can think of.

The only drain is in the middle of the shower but so much of the water ends up outside, we have a partial shower screen but it’s not enough.

So either the drain is blocked, the pipes underneath are laid at an odd angle so it ins't draining efficiently, or the floor isn't quite sloping enough for all the water to get to the drain.

I don't see the appeal either. Only useful for a disability adapted bathroom where a shower or commode chair needs to be wheeled in and out. Otherwise you get wet feet every time you go in to clean your teeth, use the toilet, find something in the cupboard.

Hated wet room so had plumber put in shower tray etc. No more wet everywhere.
