Basement Bedroom - damp

Has anyone got a bedroom in the basement? Looking at a house with a basement bedroom and from the photos I can see a patch of damp (no mould but you can see from the paint discolouration it’s damp). Should I steer clear or do you think this is something that can be fixed permanently (not recurring)? Any ideas of cost? Thanks

You need a specialist survey.

It will never be truly dry, at least not without a big investment. Tanking the walls only holds the water in the brickwork. Ideally, you prevent the water from even getting into the brickwork, but that is really expensive to do retrospectively.
The next best thing is a membrane attached to the wall, a channel dug around the bottom, leading to a sump where a pump triggers occasionally to pump out any water. New walls are built, basically building a new room within the basement. A permanently running ventilation system keeps the new cavity aired.
